Hello Waggoner Families,
As we begin October, it is finally feeling a little cooler and leaves are starting to change colors. Hopefully, the blue sky will return soon. As the season changes, we are also planning for changes ahead and our eventual return to in person instruction at school. Starting in the next few weeks we will begin with very small groups of students with the most significant educational needs, and then depending on the Yolo County COVID tiers we will move to phasing in with a hybrid model of no more than 50% of students on campus at a time. I know you will have lots of questions about this and you can expect regular communication from me moving forward as we continue our planning for returning to school. As Superintendent Jimenez shared in her community message, this will not happen overnight and we will provide plenty of notice before beginning as well as considering your family, health, and childcare needs as we plan. Later this week we will be sending out a survey to all Winters JUSD families and it is important that we receive responses from everyone - these are needed to assist with our staffing and planning to best meet the needs of students and staff.
There are a few things to keep in mind as we plan for return to school: first, we know we have families who will want to continue with distance learning for the remainder of the school year - that will be an option as well. We know that Distance Learning is working well for many Waggoner families, and we know many families are anxious for kids to return! Our model will be students in A or B group, with A attending Monday and Tuesdays in person, B Thursday and Friday in person, with all Distance Learning on Wednesdays. These A and B groups will be designed so that families TK-12 are on the same schedule, and we will also do our best to accommodate families with childcare needs if we can. Again, this won't happen fast - there is a lot that has to happen on the safety and instructional planning front. Please reach out with any questions. We are anxious to see our kids and families as soon as we safely can!

The Winters Joint Unified School District is dedicated to providing your student with quality learning
opportunities. To achieve this, the Board of Trustees, Superintendent, administrator, teachers, staff, and
community members have made a commitment to maintaining low class size at or below an average of 27
students. Occasionally, circumstances arise that increase class size beyond our goal of twenty-seven students or fewer. Contributing factors include fluctuations in student population growth, budgetary constraints and facilities limitations. Currently 100% of the classes at Waggoner are at or under the contracted size of 27 students. As a parent, you can help by volunteering in your child’s classroom or school and by spending as much as time as possible with each of your children, helping them with their homework and reading to them. While these strategies do not lower class size, they do provide your child with more learning support. You can help to keep class size as low as possible by voting in all school funding elections, supporting the PTA and their efforts to help our schools, and by lobbying our legislators and governor to continue their support of school funding.Working together will enable us to maximize the quality of your child’s education.
