I hope you are enjoying your summer! I know I normally send the Wave on Mondays during the school year - this is a special Friday edition! As I shared at the end of the year, I will continue to send updates this summer as information changes, and to seek feedback from you to help with our planning. Today Superintendent Jiménez sent out a community update, and I wanted to follow up with some information about Waggoner and to answer some questions you may have.
As Superintendent Jiménez shared , we will be sharing more specific information about daily schedules soon. At the July 20th board meeting, I shared a draft schedule that looks very much like our regular school day. However, the state has made some changes to required instructional minutes for this year that allow us to reduce the length of the school day while still proving a robust and meaningful learning experience. Briefly, TK and kindergarten require 180 minutes, 1st-3rd require 230 minutes, and 4th-12th requires 240 minutes. (Our typical day for first and second graders is 305 minutes.) To best meet the needs of our littlest learners, during Distance Learning we will be following a little shorter day than usual knowing learning is different at home.
Also, our schedule will offer lots of flexibility for families-- with a combination of pre-recorded videos that can be watched at your convenience, along with live instruction and individual and small group support. Also, we know that families may be partnering with other families and childcare during this time. To assist with this, there will be common instruction at each grade so that families can work together regardless of which teacher a child has. Teachers will be planning together to create a fabulous grade level program for all of our students. DBE classes will look a little different with Spanish and English instruction. ¡Espero que estes disfrutando tu verano! Sé que normalmente envío el Wave los lunes durante el año escolar, ¡esta es una edición especial del viernes! Como compartí al final del año, continuaré enviando actualizaciones este verano a medida que cambie la información, y buscaré sus comentarios para ayudar con nuestra planificación. Hoy, el Superintendente Jiménez envió una actualización de la comunidad, y quería hacer un seguimiento con información sobre Waggoner y responder algunas preguntas que pueda tener.
Como Superintendente Jiménez compartió, pronto compartiremos información más específica sobre los horarios diarios. En la reunión de la junta del 20 de julio, compartí un borrador del horario que se parece mucho a nuestro día escolar regular.
